Windows Update: Microsoft completes January fixes and fixes AMD problem
The first batch of fixes of the year that Microsoft usually sends every second Tuesday of the month was a bit special for this month of January. Due to the spread of information on the Specter / Meltdown flaw patches had been urgently proposed by the publisher.

Today a new set of updates is proposed, however, it is difficult to see clearly in the history page of Windows 10 updates. All versions of Windows 10 had received the hotfix released on 3 January 2018, it came to plug the flaw on Intel and AMD processors but some versions of other patches completed the picture.

Specific fixes for AMD:
So far everything was clear, Microsoft was just proposing an early update to distribute the security patch and other bugs. The list of fixes that are spreading today is less. Only versions 1703 and 1607 of Windows 10 (Birthday Shift and Creators Update) receive a set of updates. There is also a line about the bug that affects only AMD processors: "Fixes the problem that some AMD-enabled clients can not boot".

Nothing is mentioned for the latest version of Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update) but a patch is actually available under the number KB4073290. Same for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, with the security updates KB4073576 and KB4073578 spotted by the Ghacks.net site, they have the same terse description that they solve a problem with AMD devices that do not start.

Update 19/01/2018: The additional update KB4073291 completes the one proposed for users of the Fall Creators Update (Windows 10 1709). It is distributed only for 32-bit processors. Microsoft is also updating the older versions of Windows 10, the original release in the summer of 2015 Windows 10 1507 and the next Windows 10 1511. These are also patch patches for machines with AMD processors.

Hard to say if this only affects affected AMD processors or all models. Still, updates should be installed through Windows Update this weekend. Users who want to manually install patches can recover them through the Microsoft Update Catalog site
